Bill,

I saw your blog and was very interested as it has been helping me wrangle our wild sharepoint 2010 server in our organization. I saw your post about configuration of the my sites to use .local and port 80. I was hoping that you would make a post about configuring my sites for use with SSL and port 443. I was unsure what was best practice as well, whether extending the exisiting my sites web application as created based on your post, or to create a new one from scratch? please advise, your resource was the closed thing to reality as i have been able to find. Keep up the awesome work!

This is awesome. Exactly what I need. I applied it and it made my menu the blue color like your screen shots above so i can see that it applied; however the branching or sub levels is not there. Am I missing something? Is there a javascript that I have to apply to this as well to get this affect? This would be an awesome feature to have and make navigation so much easier and less clicks for my customers.

Hi Bill,

I have received an wired issue. In our Production SharePoint 2010 environment, we have enabled mysite and newsfeed when we configured the environment for the first time. And it was working fine, i.e users were able to view feeds and tags under "My Newsfeed" section of their My Sites. Now just few days back users started complaining that they are not able to view anything under "My Newsfeed".

When I checked, I found that under CA>>User Profile Service Application>>Setup My Sites page "Security Trimming Options" and "Newsfeed" are not visible.

I checked the Activity Feed job, and it is working. I am really cluless in this case.

Please help.

Thanks and Regards,

I followed your instructions, however when accessing mysites now I am prompted with a windows auth login box. I assume that this is now because I am not accessing the mysite using the netbios name of the sharepoint server, but rather the name my.insertdomainhere.com. I can provide the correct authentication and it works, but it should be seamless. Help?

Billy & David I had the same problem after debugging I found that if you leave the Desciption empty a null exception is catched. So fill some text in the desc field and it should be fixed.
You can do some additional null checking to fix the problem to.

@Bill Great job !!!!

Bill,

I have tried this code, as well as a number of similar strings to modify the web part title bars, but always to disastrous effect. I apply the code by dropping it in a text file with the script header and footer, then linking to that file from a CEWP. When I save the page, I see that the title bars have changed, but so has a number of other elements. One, if the page layout had two columns (one and a right-hand sidebar), then the right-most column is gone completely. Two, I can no longer edit the page as the ribbon will not load, nor can I get Site Actions menu to open. I have to delete the text file from the site assets library to undo the damage. I am able to apply other solutions through the CEWP (such as tabbed web parts), but not this one. Any thoughts?

Hi Bill,
First of all I want to say that this is a great article. Thank you for taking time a write this down. Nevertheless I consider that you missed a step on "Type in “personal” in your path.": after you type the word "personal", you have to press the "Add path" button and after that the "OK" button.

Cheers,

Hi Bill
I too got the same problem while deploying custom pages to a sharepoint site, by going through your way we solved the problem, but by doing so your system is open for all Active directory users which is a security concern...so practically it's not the solution..
Do you have any other solution for this....?

Would love to see how you are going about customising the look and feel of SP2010..
I must say I'm not having much joy.. I had a great set of master pages that relied on CSS in SP2007 where I could change the header graphic depending on the site you were on.. Also I'm having issues with the Search site, inheriting any sort of style / theme even if I manually set the search site use a particular master page of site theme is doesn't seem to work.. Have you come across this ??

Great blog by the way.. :)

The problem that I had was all in AAM. I simply just add an AAM of the machine name (the URL of the machine name that lets you into the central admin). But make sure you set up your Central Administration URL up.

I used for my example: http://cssp01-testphase1 and used the option of Intranet.

Let me know if this helped, or if you need further assistance. I am happy to help.
